A
student of the 6c in Velbert (Germany) reports about her slimming cure:
My
slimming cure at the seaside
My
stay at the seaside resort St. Peter Ording on the North Sea coast was really
interesting. We were 17 boys and 17 girls, taking a cure to lose weight. We
were divided into three groups, depending on our age. I’m twelve, so I was in
the third group, but there were much younger kids, too, like one nine-year-old
girl weighing as much as I: 60 kilograms.
There were lots of different activities. Every Friday we went swimming, for example, but we also walked along the beach a lot.
Once
a week we were allowed to go to town
and to spend some pocket money and every Saturday we walked to the post office
to make phone calls home, for example.
The
other kids and the attendants were really nice. Even the food was OK.
We
had to get up at 7.30 every day. Then we did our morning exercises until 8.30.
After that we had breakfast: One slice of bread with jam or cheese or cold cut,
and some cereals and milk or chocolate to drink. On Sundays we had two slices
of toast and a boiled egg.
After
breakfast we usually went out, most often to the forest or to a playground, but
also to the beach. At around 11h we returned to our hostel and started to set
the tables for lunch. For lunch we had things like pasta, dumplings, lots of
different vegetables and mixed salads (carrots, lettuce, cucumber etc.) We
always had lots of mineral water to drink – for lunch but also during the day.
There was always a dessert like ice-cream, joghurt or pudding. For some things,
the amount you got to eat was limited, like 90 grams of pasta, for example, but
for other things you were allowed to take a second helping.
After
lunch we got our mail, the we took a rest before our afternoon activities.
Before going out we got a little snack, an apple or a cookie or a slice of
bread. My favourite activity was going down to the beach and watching or
talking to the actors of a TV series about a group of young surfers. That’s a
really popular series in Germany and it’s called “Into the Wind“. The actors
were fantastic; they took pictures and gave us autographs.
Our
evening meal was almost like breakfast: a slice of bread and some cold cut and
tea to drink.
All
in all I really liked this slimming cure; not only because I lost seven (7)
kilograms in four weeks, but also because we had only two hours of school – a week!
